They say a picture paints a thousand words. But if the picture moves, does it paint a million words? As marketers, we would say yes.
360 photography is the most immersive marketing material out there. If you are not familiar with 360 imagery, it is a series of images that have been stitched together to create a virtual tour that users can click through and move around in order to see every piece of a space. It gives a viewpoint that they are actually standing in the space, able to walk around – all from the comfort of their device. Check out this 360 experience Immerge made just this week for Larkin Arts, a local studio and gallery in Harrisonburg.
But why should you use it?
On average, visitors spend 5 times longer on sites with virtual tours. This extra time is worthwhile because it can lead to an increase in annual conversions by as much as 47%. Customers feel like they are actually standing in your space – something an ordinary image can't do. If you're not convinced yet, the estimated Return on Investment (ROI) for virtual imaging is less than 4 weeks. Finally, but perhaps most importantly, 360 tours increase relevancy and help your business appear higher in search results, making your business more visible to searchers.
Things to Consider
Because 360 photos are made using a series a different photos and then stitched together, they require a special set of equipment and skills. Immerge uses a camera with fisheye lenses and a tripod so that each photo is a spherical panorama that comes out as clear as possible. Additionally, the photographer must look out for things such as consistent lighting and spacing throughout each shot, image sharpness, reflections, and ensure there are no stitching errors when compiling all the images into one 360 experience.
Google Trusted Photographers
Since your 360 photos are uploaded directly to Google maps and local results, where people are searching for a business like yours, they have great viewing and conversion potential. Google has a created a badge of honor for those photographers they believe go above and beyond: Google Trusted Photographers. Trusted photographers have the knowledge and equipment to ensure your tour expresses your brand correctly.
Photographers must meet specific requirements to become certified such as obtaining an image quality of at least 14 mp or larger for each upload and has uploaded at least 50 photos already.
Immerge has earned the title of being a Google Trusted Photographer. We have been doing a fun series of 360 shoots across Downtown Harrisonburg to show off the uniqueness of each local business.
